John Stavick

I am an Assistant Professor at Oakland University's Department of Political Science and teach in the Department's Master of Public Administration Program. I focus on public budgeting and finance research and teaching. 

I completed my PhD in Public Affairs in May 2023 at the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. In my dissertation, I investigate the use of budget maneuvers in state budget balancing decisions, as well as public employee turnover and performance. The members of my dissertation committee were Justin Ross (chair), Craig Johnson, Bob Kravchuk, Katherine Willoughby, and Coady Wing. 

Before I embarked on doctoral studies, I was an economist at the Nebraska Department of Revenue (2009-16) and a fiscal analyst at OpenSky Policy Institute (2016-17), both in Lincoln, Nebraska. I previously studied economics at Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies (B.A., 2005; M.A., 2008).
